Green Science Collaborative / Newburyport U Project

Description:
The goal of the Green Science Collaborative and the Newburyport U project is to understand, promote and link environmental science studies on the collective ecosystem of the Merrimack River, the Great Marsh, Ipswich Bay, and Gulf of Maine. It's our hope that as we sensitively explore and document all the region has to offer in scientific discovery, the world will consider this a great source for further study in such areas as advanced marine biology, fisheries, avian biology, riverine chemistry, botanical pharmacology, oceanography, climate change, and a variety of other environmental sciences.

What we do:

We aim to link researchers, professionals, teachers, parents and students to create an atmosphere of collaboration and expose the great work that is going on. Simultaneously, we aim to brand the northeast Massachusetts seacoast as a center of excellence for green science.

Scientists, researchers, and students working in the region (or outside of it but in a related scientific field) are encouraged to join our group and use GroupUp's tools to build out profiles with field photos, research findings, YouTube videos and suggested links to other resources.

In the future:

We imagine a day when Newburyport is home to a physical institute dedicated to understanding the environment and fostering cleaner, healthier products and sustainable communities. To make this vision a reality we've obtained an initial grant to encourage more research here and plant seeds. The city of Newburyport's Emerging Futures fund awarded the grant. Your profiles and postings are an important component in our plan to obtain further funding.

Attention Science Grant Writers:
Working with community, school and civic entities like ours can reinforce the government required "societal benefits" of your grant proposals to NOAA, NIH, NSF, etc. Next time you need a willing and creative community collaborator contact group member David Strand.

NEXT GROUP MEETING:
